  • What are your open water swim session times?

Currently we have the following sessions available. Please note that due to changing circumstances these may change.

    General Swim (2 hours)

    Wednesday 6pm to 8pm

    Saturday & Sunday 8am to 10am

    Marathon Swimming Sessions (4 Hours)

    Saturday 8am to 12pm

For the latest times and available sessions check out the schedule on our open water swimming page. www.bluelagooners.com/open-water-swimming

  • Do I need to be a member?

No, you can swim as a non member for £10 per session. However if you are coming regularly it works out much better value to become a member. Annual membership is required that runs for 12 months from your date of purchase. Membership gives you a range of benefits including discounts off services and products from our store & coaching website.

Membership can be purchased on our Membership Page

  • Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, all swimmers must be prebooked. This is to help us plan our safety cover and also ensure we have space for everyone.

Once our session capacity is reached the booking system won't allow any more bookings. However you may be able to join the waitlist and should a place become available, you will be promoted to the session and notifed by email.

  • Do you allow non wetsuit swimming?

Yes we do allow non wetsuit swimming. It is the individual swimmers responsibility to decide if they are competent to swim in the temprature advertised on the water temp gauge (above the check in board). Due to the site geography & risk assessment, non wetsuit swimmers must wear an approved Tow Float.

For junior swimmers aged under 18 years of  age wetsuits are compulsory. Unless agreed otherwise by the lead safty officer.

Our experienced safety crew will be on hand to offer advice and ensure you have a safe swim.

  • Do I need to wear a swim cap?

Yes and it must be brightly coloured. We have bright swim caps for sale for £4 in the swim office.

Please don't be offended if one of our safety crew requests that you change your swim cap. It's for your own safety, especially if we require the powered safety craft to enter the swim area.

You will still be required to wear a bright swim cap even if you have a tow float as the visbale movement of your head helps our safety crew identify swimmers who may need assistance.

    We reccomend:

    - Bright pink

    - Bright green

    - Bright blue

    - Bright orange

    We discourage:

Any dark coloured & white swim caps

    We don't allow:

    - Silver

    - Grey

    - Black

    - Camouflage (yep we've had folk turn up in them!)

  • Do you have wetsuits for hire?

Yes we do! We have superb Raceskin wetsuits available for hire for £10 per session. These suits are top quality open water swimming wetsuits that are flexible and comfortable.

When you arrive at the session, speak to one of our crew and they will size you up and kit you out.

  • What is the minimum age to swim?

Due to our risk assessments & direction from our insurers we currently have a minimum age of 12 years old. This is taken as of the age on the 31st of December of the current year. So if a junior is 12 before the end of the year then they can join and swim.

Please note that juniors will be required to have a safety brief and swim assessment at their first swim session. After this they will be free to swim unsupervised. Our crew may advise certain restrictions if there is a concern around swim ability, such as insisiting they swim with an adult.

All under 16 year olds must be accompanied to the session by a parent or guardian who must remain present at the session (they don't have to swim) at all times.

  • Can I fetch my dog?

Sorry no dogs are allowed on site, except those of the site owner.

Please be aware that if you arrive with your dog you will be asked to leave by the site owners. The site owners also don't allow dogs to be left in a vehicle in the carpark.

  • Can my family/spectators come and watch me?

We currently don't allow spectators around to the swim area during sessions. This is to allow us to control the number of people and ensure that our safety crew's attention is focussed soley on the swimmers.

However the onsite cafe is open and family/spectators can wait for you and enjoy the views around by the cafe.

Please note that under 18's must be supervised by an adult at all times and all visitors to the site must stay clear fo the waters edge, slipway and jettys. Please follow the instructions of site personnel and signage at all times.

  • Can I leave my car in the carpark whilst I go for a bike ride and/or a run?

The site closure times vary depending on what activities are going on. Please ensure you check with the site management (ask at the cafe) what time the site is closing and if they are happy for you to leave your car in the carpark.

Please don't assume it's ok and that the site will close at advertised times.

  • What changing facilities are available?

We have beach hut style changing booths available for you to use. However you are free to change on the lakeside as long as you maintain your dignity.

At busy times the changing booths may be in demand so please be swift and leave them clean & tidy for the next user.

Please take any rubbish with you and any kit and clothing left in the changing rooms whilst you swim will be removed.

Please note that toilet faciites are available in the cafe next to the car park.

  • How long does the open water swimming season last?

We usually open towards the end of April through to the end of September. This is dictated by the water temprature and we have opened as early as early April and closed as late as the end of October.

  • Do you still have Covid Rules?

We align ourselves with the latest government guidence and will notify members of any changes as they happen.

However please respect others who may wish to maintain social distancing and other areas of covid safety despite the government rules easing.

  • Can I join your crew?

We are always looking for volunteers to assist and have various roles. If you would  like to become a support/safety paddler full training will be given and we arrange opportunities for our crew to upskill and develop.
